America’s pregnant man gave birth vaginally to a baby girl named Susan at a hospital in Bend Oregon on June 29 this year. And now, Thomas Beatie, a female to male transgender has announced that he and his wife are pregnant again with baby number 2.

When the couple found out that Nancy was unable to carry a baby, due to a having an endometriosis-related hysterectomy, Thomas stepped in and decided to carry. The couple hails from Bend, Oregon and runs a printing company aptly named Define Normal.

Beatie is transgendered but kept his female reproductive organs, which have allowed him to become pregnant, explains that although he has had chest reconstructive surgery and testosterone therapy, it is not required to undergo sterilization as part of sexual reassignment.  He kept his reproductive organs for the future, because “Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire, but a human desire.”

The issue has sparked many debates over the unusual situation, from people who don’t consider Thomas a male, although he is legally recognized as a male and he and Nancy are husband and wife. Others question why Thomas was able to carry a child, although he has said it was because he wanted to have a child one day that he kept his reproductive organs.

In a recent interview with Barbara Walters, Thomas reveals that after the birth of Susan, he didn’t go back on his hormones in order to get pregnant again.

"I feel good," he said. "I had my checkups with my hormone level, as far as the HCG. And everything is right on track."
