"I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we've been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomena is real." The are the words of Dr. Edgar Mitchell almost 40 years after the Apollo 14 mission that made him the sixth man to land on the moon.  He had a few more specifics to tell Kerrang! Radio during an interview yesterday, saying human technology was "not nearly as sophisticated" as theirs and had they been hostile, he said warily, "We would be gone by now."  

His words sound like a standard X Files plot, in that the aliens resemble, "little people who look strange to us," that the government has been covering up knowledge of them for the past 60 years, and that we continue to be contacted.  'Reading the papers recently," he said, "it's happening quite a bit."

A producer for the radio show contacted NASA about the claims and posted the response:

"Dear Alex,
NASA does not track UFOs.
NASA is not involved in any sort of cover up about alien life on this planet or anywhere in the universe.
Dr Mitchell is a great American, but we do not share his opinion on this issue.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment."

Dr. Mitchell still holds the record for the longest moonwalking session.  In 1971 he spent nine hours and 17 minutes roaming the surface, and now one wonders what he actually saw in that period.  But speaking of the X-Files, isn't there a certain movie opening this weekend...?
